Let’s be honest, navigating the world with a healthy body image can feel like an uphill battle, but this is where the concept of body neutrality comes in. Body neutrality affirmations are a great accompaniment to get into a body-neutral mindset.

The ever-present societal beauty standards, the constant bombardment of “perfect” bodies on social media, and the lingering narratives of the diet culture can all contribute to a negative view of our physical appearance. While the body positivity movement has done incredible work in encouraging body acceptance and body love, sometimes we just need a different approach by using the right affirmations regarding the physical body.

Body-neutral affirmations to incorporate into your daily routine:

  1. My worth is not defined by my weight or body size.
  2. My body is strong and capable.
  3. I will treat my body with kindness and respect.
  4. I am worthy of love and respect, regardless of my appearance.
  5. It’s okay for my body to change over time.
  6. I choose to let go of unrealistic beauty standards and embrace my unique body type.
  7. I am allowed to enjoy delicious food and move my body in ways that feel good.
  8. I am more than just my physical appearance.
  9. My body carries me through life, allowing me to experience all the amazing things.
  10. I will not engage in negative self-talk about my body.
  11. I am not defined by the number on the scale. My body weight is one data point amongst a sea of wonderful things it allows me to do.
  12. My outward appearance doesn’t tell the whole story. My true feelings, core values, and unique features hold much more value.
  13. I choose to practice mindfulness and be present in the moment instead of getting caught up in negative thoughts about my body’s appearance.
  14. Stretch marks and body changes are simply a part of my human experience, and I can accept them without judgment.
  15. Respecting and caring for my body is an act of love, not a punishment. I nourish it with nutritious food and movement in ways that feel good, not as a means to control its appearance.
  16. Negative self-image and negative thought patterns only hold me back. I choose to replace them with positive affirmations that empower me.
  17. Engaging in body shaming, whether towards myself or others, only contributes to a toxic social environment. I choose to be a part of the positive movement towards acceptance of all bodies.
  18. My body is not the most beautiful thing about me, but it allows me to experience all the amazing things life has to offer.
  19. Positive thoughts have a positive impact on my mental health. I choose to focus on what my body can do, not what it “should” look like.
  20. Comparing my body to others is a recipe for negativity. Everyone is different, and that’s what makes the world so fascinating.
  21. Social media accounts can be filled with unrealistic portrayals of bodies. I choose to curate my online spaces with content that promotes body respect and healthy self-image.
  22. I wouldn’t treat my best friend with negativity, so I will not treat my own body any differently.
  23. My body is the least interesting thing about me.
  24. I accept the aging process as a human being with gratitude every day.
  25. I will focus on my body’s needs and physical health instead of the size of my pants.

The body neutrality movement offers a middle ground between striving for unattainable perfection and constantly battling negative self-image. While the body positive movement encourages love and appreciation, sometimes we need a different way to approach the narrative around our bodies.

How to incorporate body-neutral affirmations into your daily life:

  • Write them down: This can be in a journal, on sticky notes, or even on affirmation cards.
  • Say them out loud: Repeat them to yourself in the mirror, during your commute, or before bed.
  • Visualize them: Close your eyes and imagine yourself feeling confident and accepting of your body.
  • Be patient: Shifting your mindset takes time and practice. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results overnight.

By incorporating body neutrality affirmations into your life, you can take the first step towards a more positive and empowering relationship with yourself.
